Tha Spot History
Chantelle Leonardo always dreamed of running a dance studio. In September 2004
her dream became reality when “Tha Spot Dance Centre” opened its doors to
approximately 120 students. In the beginning the dance studio had 1 main dance
room, complete with wall to wall mirrors, hardwood flooring and a superb sound
system.
During the summer of 2005, with the expansion of the student base, the studio
had to expand as well. Construction was completed on an additional dance studio
just in time for the new dance year to begin. Classes offered include Hip Hop,
Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Modern, Acro, Lyrical, and Musical Theatre. The
dance program is available for ages 3 to adult and Tha Spot is sure to have a
class that would be perfect for every dancer.
Tha Spot Dance Centre hosts a variety of programs for both recreational and
competitive dancers. Recreational classes are fun and challenging and dancers
find it a rewarding way to meet new friends. Recreational classes are offered at
all age levels in all dance forms. All recreational students perform a routine
choreographed by their teachers in our year- end recital. This recital gives
them a chance to perform on stage with music, lights and costumes.
Tha Spot’s competitive dancers enter a variety of competitions throughout the
year. They are entered in various categories ranging from sols, duets, trios,
groups and productions in jazz, tap, ballet, hip hop, acro, modern and musical
theatre. Tha Spot dancers have won many awards in the competitions they have
competed in since opening. These awards include Dynamic Gold, Platinum, Gold as
well as Top Novice Solo, Adjudicators Choice Award and Most Entertaining.
Dancers at Tha Spot have performed at many venues including the Corso Italia
Festival, Summer Rush, the Bell Mobility Gala, Portugal Day at Bellwood’s Park,
Canada’s Wonderland and a tap performance on The “Bravo” Network to name just a
few.
Tha Spot’s goal is to inspire every dancer to work towards building strong
technique and style, to have confidence in themselves, to bring out the best in
every dancer!
